Star Wars the Old Republic Guide http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org A gamer's source of SWTOR guides and updates! Wed, 29 Feb 2012 04:07:12 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.3.1 Need SWTOR Guidance with a SWTOR guide? http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/swtor_guide/need-swtor-guidance/ http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/swtor_guide/need-swtor-guidance/#comments Fri, 20 Jan 2012 07:40:43 +0000 admin http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/?p=65

Looking over the past few days and week, the word SWTOR has been stirring up quite a buzz on the internet (looking from Google trends and you will see a peak!). I decided to write up a editorial review. As a SWTOR gamer myself, and owner of a SWTOR fansite, I felt it was my duty to do something for all the lost mmo gamers out there.

This huge MMO by BioWare has been creating a lot of puzzling looks on people’s faces and sometimes even myself. There is so much to do out there and for all those who think it’s a WoW clone, while there are some similarities, the extent of the story-line goes much further. Especially group play and the dark and light side points and how they affect you. Searched on Google for ‘swtor guides’ and came across a familiar guide site which has been around for as long as I remember – KillerGuides.com

Going over their sSWTOR Strategy Guideite and as expected SWTOR guides (advanced class guides) was already in the list. Quickly got myself a copy of the SWTOR Guide as they had a promotional $10 knock-off from the regular price of $29.99 (muhahaha *attempt at evil laugh). Opening up their guide, it was a little unfinished but hey, the game isn’t even complete yet. For the detail and information already in the guide, I thought they were on the right track and doing pretty good. As long as their updates are FREE OF CHARGE, I couldn’t care less. They will be updating it hopefully when the game is officially launched. Also I got it at a Killer Guides discount so, I thought it was really worth it.

Star Wars: The Old Republic offers a full set of classes when it comes to selecting and molding a character that fits each gamer’s playstyle. With a total of eight classes and sixteen advanced classes (also known as specialization), the list of available skills and possible combinations can be overwhelming.

Here’s some basics to get you started. Ofcourse the best course of action, also recommended, is to get a serious class guide, one of those many page guides that comes with a price (that is, if you’re serious about standing out in the game).

First of, there are three skill trees for each of the advanced classes. One of the three skill trees is shared with the same advanced class of the same main class. For instance, a Jedi Shadow has 3 abilities trees, so does the Jedi Sage. Because they branch out from the Jedi Consular main class, they share 1 skill tree that is the same. Each skill tree lets the advanced class further specialize into main character areas such as DPS, healing or tanking.

Take note that knowing what skills lies in wait within each skill tree is probably the best way to go about setting up class builds. Main reason being, it can be costly when it comes to respecs. Skills and upgrades as well as creating new combinations comes with a cost in the game and requires the use of credits. Most of the time, this is where a highly detailed SWTOR guide reference is needed and actually comes in most of the time. To get a better idea of how many possible class builds and skill set-ups we’re talking about, below is an overview of the available classes and their advanced classes:

Faction Main Class Advanced Class
Republic Jedi Consular Shadow
Sage
Jedi Knight Guardian
Sentinel
Smuggler Gunslinger
Scoundrel
Trooper Commando
Vanguard
Empire Bounty Hunter Powertech
Mercenary
Imperial Agent Operative
Sniper
Sith Inquisitor Assassin
Sorcerer
Sith Warrior Marauder
Juggernaut

Star Wars The Old Republic Smuggler http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/swtor_guide/star-wars-the-old-republic-smuggler/ http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/swtor_guide/star-wars-the-old-republic-smuggler/#comments Fri, 17 Sep 2010 10:19:54 +0000 admin http://www.starwarstheoldrepublicguide.org/?p=30

Star Wars The Old Republic Smuggler is like a jack of all trades in a roguish sense. Just like any smuggler, you must be quick witted, agile, and full of charisma. Throw in a little luck and you can be gallivanting your way across the universe.

Since the politcal upheaval between the Republic and the Empire, Smugglers tend to side with the Republic because above all, they value freedom. The Sith Empire, with their restrictions and heavy handedness in the galaxy, make dealings for the smuggler difficult to get around. They find themselves at constant odds against the laws of the surrounding galaxies. Trouble follows them everywhere, but yet they are never quite denounced by the Republic. Simply put, Smugglers are their own person, and go where trade, success and prosperity can take them. Sometimes though, it can land them right in the middle of a war, and choices of allegiances must be made.

To find their notoriety, quests can take them to the far reaches of the galaxy for swtor credits. You can find a glint in a Smuggler’s eye with one word: starships. There they can find the booty that can make them wealthy, no matter if the deals are shady or legitimate.

Star Wars The Old Republic Smuggler, with their perfect smile and charisma, are able to pull off a bluff or con effortlessly. No situation is too difficult for the smuggler to get the upper hand. By weaving their charm in conversation and body language, this can give them just enough time or edge to make a quick escape.

Having read the Star Wars The Old Republic Guide, Star Wars The Old Republic Smuggler is a quick witted foe. Agile and using the surrounding environment to their advantage, they are also have one heck of an aim. With a blaster at their side, it is not their only weapon. Stealth and maybe an unfair fight with odds stacked in their favor, make for a victorious Smuggler. Also, they are lithe as not to be encumbered by heavy, clunky armor.

Above all, money fuels the Smuggler’s passion. Having the best clothes, weapons and living the high life, this is what they live for. In a spur of the moment they can find themselves thrown head first into an adventure, racing across the galaxy.

This free spirit class is the epitome of the famous Smuggler Han Solo, where charm and blaster go hand in hand.
